"Though I fully understand that business is business, and we all do what we feel we must in order to make a buck, I choose not to view the world with the jaundiced eye of the true cynic. I guess I am more the reluctant optimist even if I have somewhat pessimistic expectations from the public at large. In point of fact, though I generally find myself rather expecting the best from people, I also find myself somewhat surprised when that best is so readily apparent and generously offered.
And that brings me rather the long way 'round to you two and my heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality shown during our brief visit. If you guys are faking it, please don't tell me. If there is an ulterior motive, I don't want to know about it for it is my considered opinion that you went above and beyond in kindness, thoughtfulness and in making this traveling writer and his wife feel right at home in your fair city. It'd like to think (and in fact, do) that you guys really are as nice as you seem. For that I say thank you, thank you, thank you. "
